Fire Red Azolla NEW

Description: Fire Red Azolla (Azolla filiculoides) is a fast-growing floating aquatic fern that turns vibrant red under high sun, cooler temperatures, or mild nutrient stress, making it both functional and visually striking in natural ponds. It thrives in still, nutrient-rich water and is especially useful in eco systems because it fixes atmospheric nitrogen through symbiotic cyanobacteria, absorbs excess nutrients (helping control algae), provides cover for fish fry, reduces evaporation, and can be harvested as compost or mulch. In SE QLD climates it colours up best in autumn and winter, but it spreads rapidly and can blanket a pond if not managed, so periodic thinning is essential to maintain oxygen exchange and balance.
